Copper Bonded Earthing Electrode

A GI (Galvanized Iron) earthing rod is a grounding electrode made from high-quality mild steel with a hot-dip galvanized zinc coating. It is used to provide a safe path for fault currents and leakage currents to flow into the earth, ensuring the protection of electrical equipment and personnel. GI earthing rods are widely used in residential, commercial, industrial, and utility applications due to their strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

Installation

The GI earthing rod is driven vertically into the ground using suitable driving tools. For lower earth resistance, multiple rods may be connected in parallel and spaced appropriately. The rod is connected to the earthing conductor using galvanized clamps or suitable connectors to ensure a secure and low-resistance electrical connection.

Standards

GI earthing rods are commonly manufactured in accordance with:

  • IS 3043 – Code of Practice for Earthing
  • IS 2062 – Mild Steel Specification (where applicable)
  • IEC 62561 – Lightning Protection System Components
  • BS 7430 – Code of Practice for Protective Earthing

GI earthing rods are a reliable and economical choice for grounding systems, offering good corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and dependable electrical performance for a wide range of electrical installations.
